The Hotel Giraffe in New York City- Final Stop
After reviewing the Hotel Elysee and Library Hotel, my travel partner and I were whisked over to Hotel Giraffe, yet another hotel within the Library Hotel Collection. We were set for a two-night stay there and what can I say, it was my favourite hotel of them all.
Located on the corner of Park Avenue and E 26th St in New York City, Hotel Giraffe embodies the gentle power, grace and beauty found in one of nature’s most beloved animals. The hotel is inspired by the architecture and design of the Art Modern period that has distinguished this vibrant 'No Mad' neighborhood since the 1920’s and 30’s. This luxury hotel offers phenomenal service that makes it an ideal New York City getaway for leisure and business travelers alike.
The service and amenities at all of the Library Hotel Collection Hotels were top-notch, but this hotel, resembled my style of traveling the most.
Amenities included (within all Library Hotel Collection Hotels)
- A continental breakfast including hot oatmeal, boiled eggs, pastries, bagels, muffins, fresh whole fruit and fruit salad with berries, assorted cereals, yogurt, juices, freshly brewed coffee, tea, espresso and cappuccino served daily in the Grand Lobby with a selection of Newspapers
- Selection of refreshments 24 hours a day
- Wine & Cheese Reception every evening from 5-8pm with Live Piano Music on Weeknights
- High speed DSL/Wi-Fi Internet access
- Passes to New York Sports Club
The grand lobby was a constant flurry of busy tourists, mixed with intimate business meetings, and a pianist playing freely on the grand piano. Then there was a beautifully decorated area where free coffee and snacks were available all day long. The bellhop was most friendly and helpful in suggesting places to eat and grab a drink. It all felt like home in a unique sort of way.
On our first night we dined at the Bread & Tulip, which was located in the Giraffe Hotel. This restaurant’s décor resembled a quaint eclectic hideaway with exceptional food and amazing service. Our server was actually an artisan who makes jewelry out of seaweed. It appeared that many of the service staff we encountered was aspiring to achieve bigger dreams as they work the 9-5 grind. After all, they are in New York!
Our room was spacious, clean, and had a half moon balcony that enabled us to catch a breath of fresh air and people watch as they passed by. They were traditional and modern in every way.
The rooftop bar (which is famously known as Big’s Apartment on Sex and the City and the location where Big and Carrie shared a romantic kiss that led to some hot action) was absolute heaven, even on a brisk November evening. The Rooftop Garden is available for hotel guests only during the daytime, and opens to the public as a rooftop bar Monday-Saturday evenings during the warmer months of the year.
This was a dream vacation for my travel partner and I and the Giraffe Hotel did not disappoint. My travel partner (who was my sister in law) turned 50 and I turned 44 and since we were young we always dreamed of attending the Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Parade. Upon waking up on my 44th birthday and US Thanksgiving, I made my way to the lobby to grab a coffee and complimentary breakfast. It appears someone got the memo about my birthday and my plans to attend the parade that day: There wasn’t a person in the lobby that didn’t give me well wishes and an encouraging push to go and experience the parade (I was a little reluctant when I heard that there could be up to 3.5 spectators along the parade trail).
Location, Location, Location
The Hotel Giraffe is in proximity of many fabulous restaurants and tourist locations.
The Blue Smoke and Danny Meyer's BBQ offers a deep beer and bourbon list, plus a basement live jazz venue, and is a place where we ate and enjoyed the BBQ meal. The infamous Sarabeth, I Trulli, Eleven Madison Park and Hillstone, an upscale chain eatery featuring steak, seafood & pasta alongside specialty cocktails, were all within walking distance.
The Hotel Giraffe is within walking distance of Madison Square Park, Union Square Park, the Empire State Building and Flatiron Building. And of course, there are always the flurry of taxis just waiting to take you from the hotel to anywhere you want to go to experience the excitement of New York City.
Overall, our New York City experience was amazing thanks to the staff and management of the Library Hotel Collection, Hotel Elysee, Library Hotel and Hotel Giraffe.
