What does the ‘color of the year’ mean to me?
Greenery is Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year. The color of the year is something that designers talk about. And we talk about it, discuss our guesses for the coming year, and then weigh-in on our delight or disgust at the color selected.
We're talking about Pantone’s color of the year at our next #HossDesign Twitter Chat 12/21 8pmE @MyFixItUpLife
It’s a fun annual experience in the world of design, much like political elections bring together or tear apart colleagues who are otherwise very like-minded.
So what does Greenery mean to you? If you’ve seen ‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ then you know where I’m going. The scene wear the sweater color is discussed is a classic design lesson in the impact that a design decision could make on a culture. The color selection reflects the mood of the culture, and is both a reaction to what has been happening, and a predictor to how we as a society will feel in the coming year.
Yes, the color selected also has the power to strengthen or sway a mood, as the color selection immediately makes the color more significant and produced in clothing, home goods, and everything else.
What does this particular color green mean?
Greenery is a yellow-green shade, so it combines the meditative natural renewal essence of green with the positivity and promise of yellow.
I’m curious to know what you think about the color. We’ll be talking about Pantone’s color of the year during our next #HossDesign Twitter chat on Wednesday, December 21st at 8pmET. Join us.
