Scott McGillivray adds style to the re-energization of downtown Kitchener

Professional contractor and real estate investor Scott McGillivray is about to break ground on a new residential development through his company The McGillivray Group.

In partnership with Zehr Group and Vanguard Developments, McGillivray will be working on “The Walter,” a 4-storey, 38-unit rental building in the heart of Midtown Kitchener at 100 Walter Street. The building is slated for occupancy in the spring of 2017.

“I’ve spent my career investing in real estate, and now I’m excited to take it to the next level with this new residential development in the Kitchener region,” says Scott McGillivray. “I see huge value in this area with the massive growth plan by the city, and all the high profile tech companies establishing themselves here. It’s definitely growing at a great pace, which makes it an excellent place to invest.”

In fact, there has been well over $440 million invested in downtown Kitchener since 2004 as part of a municipal strategy to establish downtown Kitchener as “one of the best downtowns in North America that offers a complete sense of community while offering cool, unique, vibrant and eclectic experiences.”*

Situated directly across from green space and just steps to the Google HQ and the new LRT, The Walter is definitely positioned to provide a cool, unique and vibrant experience thanks to the design infusion from McGillivray. As the host of the hit series Income Property, star of numerous renovation TV programs in Canada and the US, and an expert in construction and real estate investing, McGillivray has gained a wealth of experience and knowledge in adding style and value to a property. The Walter will feature upscale quality finishes with a contemporary flair, providing the perfect lifestyle for the urban professional looking for rental property near downtown Kitchener.

The Zehr Group is a distinguished developer, recognized for their leadership and contribution to several high profile projects.

"We feel that Scott McGillivray's involvement with this project reinforces the positive change happening downtown," says Don Zehr, CEO of Zehr Group. "Kitchener is on the cusp of something great and it's a big validation to have Scott on board with us.”

In fact, Scott’s expertise was one of the key reasons why he was sought after by developers in the K-W region.

“Building high-quality rental developments with a community-oriented design is a key focus for Vanguard, and Scott’s unique skillset is a huge asset” says Paul Ballantyne, co-founder of Vanguard Developments along with Tommy Rakic.

As CEO of McGillivray Group, Andrew McGillivray is excited to be a part of new development in K-W.

“Developments are a new area of business for us, and strategically we’re focusing on regions with high growth where we’re able to bring a unique lifestyle to the growing community of urban professionals in the area.”

The foundations work at 100 Walter Street has already started and the building will be out of the ground by the end of summer. Building occupancy is slated for Spring 2017.
