My Style with Tarek and Christina El Moussa

Tarek and Christina El Moussa, stars of the hit HGTV show Flip or Flop, are a busy husband and wife duo, managing a bustling production schedule, a thriving real estate business and two small children. Based in Orlando, the duo have recently become North American brand ambassadors for Granite Transformations, known for its unique resurfacing process that fits new surfaces over existing countertops, no demolition required. Busy as they are, the dynamic couple always looks like a million bucks, just like the homes they renovate on their hit show. We caught up with them to talk about style.

How would you describe your personal style?

Christina: I’d call it “rustic glam.” I like a combination of reclaimed wood with a feminine element like a crystal chandelier.

Tarek: My style is very similar to Christina’s. I like wrought iron, stone walls as well as the classy look of wainscoting, marble countersink real stone floors and distressed hardwoods.

Who are your style icons?

Christina: As a pre-teen it was Gwen Stefani now it's Kristin Cavallari.

Tarek: I admire clothing designer John Varvatos. And I like chains, skulls and weird stuff like that. In my first home, I had a room that looked like a dungeon!

What is your favorite era?

Christina: I love 70s! Bell bottoms and platforms all the way.

Tarek: I’m not sure, but I also love the look of the 70s. It was just so laid back and cool.

What city in the world best exemplifies your personal style?

Christina: I’d say West Coast style. I like things to be simple, but with elements of outside pulled in with reclaimed wood and rock walls.

Tarek: West Coast style nails it!

What is the worst style trend ever?

Christina: The 80s, in general, were so brown and boring.

Tarek: I’d say the 90s. I used to wear bright coloured, size 40 pants growing up in Buena Park. Now I look back and think, ‘God, that was ugly.’

What fabrics and colours are you drawn to?

Christina: Arabesque shape and greys, blacks and silver.

Tarek: I love black and silver and soft fabrics but NOT see-through shirts, which I accidentally recently bought and actually wore! Christina had a good laugh.

What are your personal style essentials?

Christina: Tom Ford shades, distressed denim and flannel.

Tarek: Luxury car. The Bentley comes to mind.

What’s on your style wish list?

Christina and Tarek: Right now, we’d settle for a relaxing vacation on a beach with our babies and a tropical cocktail.
