Design Destination: Miami
Miami Design District is one of North America’s newest shopping destinations, spilling over with luxury fashion and innovative art, architecture and interior design goodies. Galleries and exhibit spaces abound along with eye-popping buildings and art installations in the neighbourhood, which stretches across a dozen square blocks just north of the downtown core.
Shop for iconic, high-end fashion from the likes of Louis Vuitton and Hermès along with designer home furnishings at forward-looking Luminaire Lab (3901 Northeast 2nd Ave) or Armani/Casa (10 Northeast 39th St).
Art lovers shouldn’t miss the de la Cruz Collection Contemporary Art Space (23 Northeast 41 st St), which houses a sensational private collection. Visit the exciting Institute of Contemporary Art, too. (ICA, 4040 Northeast 2nd Ave). Commercial galleries like Opera Gallery show top international artists (temporarily at 30 Northeast 39th Street, but moving to The Palm Court at 140 Northeast 39th St). And check out Maman Fine Art (3930 Northeast 2nd Ave), to see the latest works from notable Latin artists. You can view upcoming and alternative artists at not-for-profit Locust Projects (3852 North Miami Ave).
Finally, sample fresh local bistro fare – and cozy up to the oyster bar – at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink (130 Northeast 40th St) or refuel at bakery-café Crumb on Parchment (3930 Northeast 2nd Ave).
