3 Hot Kitchen Trends for 2016

Colour, counters and texture switch it up this year

Gone are the days when your kitchen was only intended for meal preparation. Today’s kitchens are becoming an extension of your living space. The trends emerging in 2016 give your kitchen a “personality” making a more inviting space in which to entertain, socialize or just catch up with family at the end of the day…it’s where life happens!

White and neutral kitchens are always popular, but in 2016 we see colour in everything for your kitchen from lighting, backsplashes and appliances, to sinks, faucets and cabinetry. Light greys, pale blues, soft muted greens and even strong charcoal greys are prevalent cabinet colours. Yellows, reds, deep blues, muted greens and even pink are great accent colours. Wood tones get a facelift as well as heavy, dark espresso wood cabinets giving way to lighter tones like white oak or walnut with a bit of a visible grain.

Texture is on trend in design this year and the kitchen is no exception. From raw wood cabinetry and rough-hewn woods for counters, to stone surfaces and unpolished backsplashes, texture will add life and dimension to your space. Metallics continue forward in design. Antique brass, copper, rose gold and aged metals are great for cabinet hardware, accessories and pendant lights. However, this year, metals are making a greater statement in kitchen design with the growing popularity of metal range hoods. The raw texture of a metal range hood is a great contrast in a white or neutral kitchen.

Our counters are getting a new look, too. Thick, chunky counters are being pushed aside with the emerging trend of thin counters that blend in with your cabinetry giving a sleek and seamless look to your kitchen. Look to Blanco’s great line of Silgranit sinks and coordinating faucets to further enhance this look. These sinks are available in seven different earth-tone colours designed to blend well with many current solid surface counters and are durable, scratch, stain, impact and heat resistant.

The trends of 2016 can create many amazing designs for your kitchen. Get inspired and don’t be afraid of exploring your creativity to make your kitchen an inviting room where you’re happy to entertain and live.
